Making a reservation at BlockHouse

  • 1. I am not a student; can I reserve a studio?
  • Yes, we let studios to anybody who is looking for temporary accommodation in Groningen.
  • 2. How can I reserve a studio?
  • Fill in the application form on our website and we will send you information about availability and next steps within two to three working days via email.
  • 3. Is there an age limit?
  • Anybody who is 18 years or older is welcome.
  • 4. How many people can live in the studios?
  • De Standard and Deluxe studios are suitable for one person. The Business Studio is suitable for a maximum of two people.
  • 5. Are the studios furnished?
  • Yes, all studios are fully furnished.
  • 6. Can I get a tour of the rooms?
  • Unfortunately, this isn’t possible because we do not want to disturb the current tenants.
  • 7. When is check-in?
  • Check-in is from 3 p.m. on. In case you arrive early, please contact us prior to your arrival so we can see if we can accommodate you sooner.
  • 8. When is check-out?
  • Check-out ends at 10 a.m. the latest.
  • 9. Can I store my luggage in case the studio isn’t ready at arrival?
  • Yes, that is possible. Please ask our staff for the luggage room.
  • 10. How big are the beds?
  • This varies, depending on the size of the studio. The bed sizes are 90/200 cm, 140x200 cm and 160x200 cm. A handful of studios is equipped with a loft bed (140x200 cm).
  • 11. Are bedlinen and towels included during my stay?
  • We offer a linen package with the Standard and Deluxe Studios which can be paid in full at arrival and will be ready at your room. The linen package is included in the price of the room for the Business Studios.
  • 12. How often will housekeeping clean the room?
  • The Standard Studio and Deluxe Studio are being cleaned once a month. Washing and drying linen and towels is your own responsibility. The Business Studio is being cleaned once a week which includes washing and drying of linen and towels.

About the building

  • 1. How many residents does BlockHouse have?
  • BlockHouse has more than 200 studios of which seven are suitable for one to two people.
  • 2. Do all studios have a private bathroom and kitchen?
  • Yes, this includes kitchen inventory, oven, dishwasher and induction cooker.
  • 3. Where can I store my bike?
  • Close to the entrance BlockHouse has resident-only bike racks.
  • 4. Can I have a pet at the BlockHouse?
  • We do not allow for pets in our building.
  • 5. Are smoking or drugs allowed at the BlockHouse?
  • Smoking and the use of both soft- and hard drugs are prohibited at private and public premises.

Short stay tenancy agreement

  • 1. Can I switch studios during my stay?
  • Depending on availability, a switch is possible at an extra charge.
  • 2. Can I terminate my lease earlier than initially agreed upon?
  • It is possible to vacate early. However, monthly payments are due during the remainder of the contract period that was initially agreed upon.
  • 3. Is it possible to reserve a studio next to a friend’s room?
  • You can make this request during the application. However, we cannot guarantee that it will be granted. We will do our best to accommodate you according to your preferences.

Financial

  • 1. Can I apply for rent allowance?
  • Unfortunately, this isn’t possible.
  • 2. How can I pay deposit and rent?
  • Prior to your stay, the deposit and the rent for the first month must be paid in full via bank transfer. From there on, the rent must be paid between the 24th and 1st of every month for the following month at the reception desk. Payment is possible via debit or credit card.
  • 3. Can I settle the deposit with the final monthly payment?
  • This is not possible. The deposit will be returned once the studio has been vacated and the inspection showed no damage to the facilities.
  • 4. Are there any extra costs that will be charged?
  • No, the first payment entails deposit and the first monthly payment.
  • 5. How high is the deposit?
  • The deposit is equal to one month rent.
  • 6. When will the deposit be returned?
  • As soon as the inspection shows no damage to the room, we aim at transferring the deposit to your bank account within 14 days.
