What is the size of a single bed?
A single bed is 90×200 cm.
What is the size of a double bed?
A double bed is 140×200 cm.
What size is the bed in the business studio?
The bed in the business studio is 160×200 cm.
Is there a laundry room in the building?
Yes, there is a laundry room in the building for residents to use. The costs of using the washing machine are €4,50 per wash. Using a dryer costs €0,50 per 10 minutes.
Is there a place to park your bike?
Yes, you can park your bike in the cellar of the Blockhouse building.
What is included in a studio?
Our studios are completely furnished and equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, bed, desk and storage. The spaces are designed to offer a comfortable and practical living space for both short and longer stays. Find out here which studios have some extra features like a coffee machine and tv.
What is NOT included in a studio?
Not all bedding is included in the Blockhouse studios.
In a short-stay studio, you need to bring your own bedsheets.
In a long-stay studio, you need to bring your own bedding, a duvet, bedsheets and pillows.
You can find the bed sizes on this page, to know what size bedding you should bring.
Apart from that, all the things you need daily are provided, from furniture to kitchen utensils.
How can I book a studio to rent?

How far ahead do I need to book a studio?
Groningen is a popular city where housing is in high demand. We recommend you book with us as soon as you know for sure you’ll be coming to Groningen. Consider to book from a few months to over a year in advance.
What are the requirements for short stay?
For short stay rent there are specific requirements which can vary. A definite requirement is you come directly from abroad for a 6 month stay.
How many people can stay in a studio?
Our studios are designed with a single resident in mind. In some cases, it’s possible for two people to stay in a studio. Please contact us for more information.
What kind of contracts does Blockhouse offer?
Blockhouse offers short term (6 months) and long term (1 year) contracts. The length of stay can vary, depending on your needs and the availability of the studios.
How do I pay for the studio?
You can pay for the studio via bank transfer. You’ll receive our bank details and payment instructions when you sign your rental agreement.
Is it possible to apply for rent benefits (huurtoeslag)?
Depending on your income, your age and the price of your rent, it might be possible to apply for rent benefits. Please contact the Dutch tax authorities (belastingdienst) for more information.
What does the caretaker do?
The caretaker (huismeester) makes sure Blockhouse is a clean and safe place to live for all residents. They carry out daily management and maintenance tasks and make small repairs. If you have any problems or questions, you can contact the caretaker.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not allowed at Blockhouse, to ensure the hygiene and comfort of all residents.
Is wifi available?
Yes, free wifi is available in all studios.
Are the studios smoke-free?
Yes, all studios are smoke-free. There are designated smoking areas outside the Blockhouse building.
Is there a cleaning service?
Yes, weekly cleaning is possible. Extra cleaning services can be booked on request against an extra charge.
Are the studios suitable for students?
Yes, our studios are very suitable for (international) students! We have flexible rental agreements and all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay as a student.
Can I have visitors over in my studio?
Yes, you’re allowed to have guests over in your studio. They are not allowed to stay the night without prior permission from management.
Is a deposit required?
Yes, when signing the rental agreement, a deposit of €1250 is required.
What about the security of the building?
The Blockhouse building is equipped with 24/7 camera surveillance. At night, the entrance gates close. (Residents can enter the building 24/7.) During office hours, the caretaker is around to keep an eye out in person.
What do I do in case of an emergency?
I case of emergency, contact our emergency number that is displayed throughout the building.
How far are your studios from public transportation?
Our studios are conveniently located in the city center of Groningen. There are multiple bus stops within a few minutes walking distance. Groningen central train station is a 9-minute walk away, from where you can take the train into the country. You can reach Amsterdam in about 2,5 hours by train. Groningen also has its own airport, Groningen Airport Eelde, only 15 km from the city.
Are there shops and supermarkets close by?
Yes, since the Blockhouse building is in the city center, there are plenty of shops, supermarkets, and restaurants close by our studios. This makes living here comfortable and convenient!
Can I cancel my booking?
Once you’ve booked and signed the rental agreement, administration costs of €250 will apply if you cancel your booking. If you cancel your booking closer than 1 month to the start of your rental agreement, Blockhouse keeps the first month of rent. You receive all the detailed cancellation information when making your booking.
